1st Half

Finger Lakes Tri 2006

Kari and I after the FL 2006 Tri. I completed the Sprint this year with an overall time of 1:19:42 which places me 14th overall and 3rd in my age group. I was very pleased with my 06:47pace for the run. Swim (slow as usual) and Bike were a bit slow. Very fun!

Like The Wind (Part II)

Another wonderful performance by Kari in the FL06 Kid's Tri. Like last years swim, she did encounter some walking but came out of the water in 2nd (for her little age group). Quick transition thanks to the help from Mom and Dad and she was off on the bike (all smiles). Her transition from Bike to Run was *very* quick and she took off like a deer. I shouted for her to catch the boy in front of her which she did and picked off 2 more kids. Jerry D and I pulled in and ran beside her for a couple of minutes. We cheered her on to pick off (pass) the girl that was a bit up in front of her. Couple of (expected) whimpers and Kari said she couldn't do it. Nearing the finish she pulled that magic out and dashed by the girl (seen behind Kari in the picture) and took the finish with Olympic form!

Today around noon, Jason and I accended Mt Whitney. We woke at 4am and finally made it down around 530pm. Not easy but loads of fun!

QuickDraw....

Another glorious day of climbing at Red Rocks. We spent the entire time on one route. The crux was impassable without the help of a quickdraw cheat/pull. Once the pull was made a full crack handjam secured the start of the crack. Being the first to try the cheat allowed me to go up 1 higher and place my first lead gear. Beyond that my skills/nerves dropped and I lowered to have Jason finish it off. We cleaned and left with the sun setting over the mountains and were escorted out of the park by some wild donkeys (no joke).

Like the Wind!

It's amazing how fast my little(?) Kari can run. 2 years ago she started cross country, last year her 1st triathlon and this year it's track and field. A few weeks ago I visited her at lunch. During playtime, I setup a relay for all the kids and Kari's feet were moving SO fast. She flew to 2nd place beating out some older boys. It is going to be exciting to see where she takes all of this.

Kari lost her 1st (front left) tooth today at school. She brought it home in a neat little plastic (necklace) tooth holder.

Don't Look Up!

Here's Kari in the observatory hut at the zoo. Notice the mountain lion sitting right on top. You had to crawl through some tunnels to get into the hut. Once in, you're surround by the entire exhibit.
